3-TTK is the latest hybrid rocket from AGH Space Systems. It is the next iteration of a hybrid-powered sounding rocket. It utilizes innovative solutions and technologies developed based on experiences gained during the execution of previous projects.
One of the goals of the project was to participate in the Spaceport America Cup 2022 and Spaceport America Cup 2023. The rocket competed in the flight category aiming for an altitude of 10,000 feet. Its task was to carry a research payload weighing up to 4 kilograms to a designated height and ensure its safe return through a recovery system.
Development work on the 3-TTK rocket project began in October 2021. The team, drawing on experience from working on the PROtotype and Skylark rocket projects, conducted a series of modifications and improvements to the design.
A completely new segment connection system significantly accelerated the integration process, allowing for parallel and independent preparation of key rocket systems. New rocket bodies were produced, and the design of the stabilizers was also improved. The onboard electronics system received a dedicated housing, enabling quick integration with the other 3-TTK systems and rapid replacement in case of malfunction.
3-TTK is also the first rocket from AGH Space Systems to use a new, revolutionary cage model, in which the propellant supply system was placed. The open construction with transparent fairings facilitated diagnosis of servo valves and hydraulic components of the propellant supply system, and also enabled quick servicing.
The 3-TTK rocket participated in the Spaceport America Cup 2022, where it scored the highest points in the technical evaluation among all rockets in its category. Unfortunately, due to weather conditions and a complicated situation related to insurance for hybrid rocket launches provided by the organizers, 3-TTK was unable to launch during the competition, preventing us from earning points for the flight and recovery of the rocket. Nevertheless, the judges appreciated our design, awarding it 3rd place in the 10k SRAD Hybrid/Liquid category. In 2023, after further modifications and improvements, 3-TTK participated again in the SAC competition in New Mexico, USA, where it took 4th place.
